In the iBT test, academia, and the business world students will often be asked to present their ideas formally and informally in 30 second or 1 minute, oral speeches. This course will teach students how to present their ideas clearly in an organized way, using advanced speaking techniques. Students can expect to improve their:
organization and relevance of ideas
vocabulary
grammar/sentence structure
pronunciation
depth of thought
note taking
rapid preparation skills
ability to draw inference from tone of voice
understanding of speaker’s attitudes
They will practice and learn how to make speeches on facts and opinions. In many cases student’s presentations will be based on passages that they have had to read or listen to shortly before speaking, as you can see lessons will also focus on comprehension skills and techniques. This course will be a valuable tool for those preparing for the iBT test and for students who need to bring their oral communication skills to the next level. This class will be held Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for 4 hours per week.
