the York School
Founded by its present Head, Barbara Goodwin-Zeibots, The York
School opened in 1965 as a pre-Kindergarten programme, grew steadily until 1978
when both a toddler and an elementary programme began and then opened its first
Grade 9 class in the fall of 1995. Now, York occupies a unique position among
Toronto-area independent schools.
York's uniqueness is further enhanced by its new location as a
Manhattan-style school in mid-town Toronto with easy access to community parks
and the main subway and bus lines. Since moving to its mid-town location, York
has completely renovated the school building, constructed a large, modern
gymnasium and drama room and, this past September, opened a cafeteria/food
service offering both a meal plan and snack purchases.
