Real Speaking is an intensive 2-month course designed to improve a student’s speaking in all areas. The program consists of the following components:
1. Energizer An interactive, fun and stimulating activity first thing in the morning to get the students back into English for the day.
2. Homework report Students are assigned a communicative activity to accomplish every evening, and they report the results to their classmates in the morning. The task could be, for example, to find out certain information about the student’s home-stay parents or to visit a shop and inquire about a specific product. Completing the tasks will give students the confidence to communicate in the real world.
3. How Do I Sound? Pronunciation, intonation and fluency are all important ingredients in communication in a second language. This segment of the program will focus on the production of clear and natural sounding speech.
4. Practically Speaking In this section, students will learn the expressions and vocabulary commonly used in everyday activities like shopping, going to the bank, asking for and giving directions, talking on the phone, etc… Students will carry out activities both inside and outside of the classroom
5. Casually Speaking Students will practice the art of conversation by studying communication strategies and appropriate vocabulary
6. Formally Speaking The ability to make effective oral presentations is an important life skill. Students will study and practice many different kinds of presentations, and will deliver presentations using Power Point software.
7. Talk Business Discussions, meetings, role-plays, negotiations - using business themes. Students will also learn how to write a resume and how to perform well in a job interview.
8. Media English The media plays a large part in everyone’s life. This segment of the program will use materials from newspapers, magazines, tv, movies, music, radio and the internet as the basis for discussions, debates, presentations and group projects. Students will also go on field trips to local tv stations and newspapers.
