Training the boss on the benefits of training (The Globe and Mail, Wednesday, September 17, 2008)

If there is someone in a higher position than your boss, you should meet and persuade him or her how your company can benefit from the workshop. If you can't have a choice because you have already tried to reach a compromise with your boss. There is only one way to solve the problem. Change your job. Gi Jueng Kim, Toronto

There must be something the boss is worried about. It could be the money that the company might spend on backing you up or it could be the unstable organization without you. You need to figure out what is more important between your job or your education, because she is always there when you try to get out of work. If you think about resigning, I think that would be wrong. Don't get off track. It's your choice: You can invest your own money in yourself or you can spend time on the weekends or holidays, not on working time. Baegeon Jeong, Hapcheon, South Korea

If you think this company is a good opportunity for your career and worth it, you should talk with your boss and together fin a solution. Maybe you can share the cost of the training with the company, but it's very important for you to be honest in this discussion and show your frustration. On the other hand, you have to think about how much this job can increase your learning and professional life. Sometimes it's time to look for another work.  Roberta deFatima, Sao Paulo, Brazil
