International
students are always looking for effective programs to achieve their goals. Doing
an internship is one of their choices when studying English at Cornerstone.
Our
internship program offers ESL and Business English students an opportunity to
gain valuable experience working alongside Canadians at a number of big name
companies including Warner Brothers, Royal Bank, Hilton Hotel and many more.
UNPAID INTERNSHIP
This
is ideal for young students interested in improving their English in a real-life
setting, meeting Canadians and getting a valuable reference from a North
American employer. It can be taken as part of a work and study course or on its
own. If you do want to take the Internship Program on its own, you will need to
be able to qualify for an internship visa. Internship visas are only available
in Western Europe.
In order to participate in this program you will need
to meet the following requirements:
- Have a minimum of Intermediate ESL level communication ability
- Be at least 18 years old
- Qualify for an internship visa -or- currently enrolled at a Cornerstone (more than 4 weeks).
- Be available to intern for at least 4 weeks
Internships can be done in many of the following industries: law, architecture, accounting, finance, graphic design, IT, event planning, marketing, international trade and more. All internships are available in both Vancouver and Toronto.
Placement Fee: $600.00
PAID INTERNSHIP (Work & Study)
The paid internship program is very similar to the unpaid program. This can be taken as part of a work and study course. As part of your English language studies at Cornerstone, you can enter the Work & Study Program in order to facilitate your learing experience in an English-speaking setting. Though this program is not intended to gain professional work experience, it is designed to extend the classroom into the real world, allowing you to interect with native English-speaking Canadians.You must have a positive attitude, high level of English fluency and in some cases, prior experience.
Reporting
You will be required to report the week’s duties and evaluate your progress to the Program Director at Cornerstone every Friday. The Program Director will have open dialogue with your Work Supervisor in order to monitor your performance.
In order to participate in this program you must meet the following requirements:
- Have a minimum of Higher ESL level communication ability
- Qualify for an internship visa -or- be currently enrolled at Cornerstone holding a Study Permit (students can obtain a Work Permit).
- Be available to intern for at least 12 weeks
- Be at least 18 years old
Internships
can be done in Business Administration or
Hospitality Management. Business Administration & Hospitality Management internships are available
in Vancouver and Toronto. Hospitality management internships are available
almost anywhere in Canada.
Hospitality Management Internships include front desk, night
auditor, back office, food and beverage administration, and reservations.
Students must attend English classes at Cornerstone prior to attending the job for the equivalent period of the Professional Internship Program (eg. 50% English Program + 50% Internship).
Wage: Stipends vary from a low of $200 per week to a high of $300 per week.
