The
goal of Cornerstone's Bridge Program is to help younger students assimilate into
the mainstream Canadian education system. Our philosophy revolves around a
simple 3-step progression: EXPOSURE leading to FAMILIARITY
fuelling CONFIDENCE. We begin by exposing students to the teaching
methods and courses taught at Canadian schools in an ESL context. We immerse
students in the language, customs, and subject matters offered in Canadian
public and private schools helping to acquaint them with the mainstream program.
Academic disciplines such as Canadian History, Geography, Literature, Math and
Science are highlighted in our international program. Through quality education
and individualized attention, our students gain the confidence necessary to
integrate into the Canadian classrooms.
The
Program
Our
program has two main division: ESL in the morning and Core Subjects in the
afternoon. Grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking skills are allotted
specific times for instruction. Textbooks, reading books, writing journals,
videos, audios and other materials are used during instruction to address the
specific ESL skill.
In
the afternoon, Core Subject studies are addressed within an ESL context. In many
instances, actual textbooks required by the Canadian education system are used
for instruction. Afternoon classes are more dynamic with group projects,
presentations and experiments leading the way for our activity-based
program.
In
addition to our classroom instruction, we foster assimilation through frequent
field trips and weekly activities. From the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art
Gallery of Ontario to the Ontario Science Centre and so much more, we take
advantage of rich learning centers and cultural festivities the city of Toronto
has to offer.
The
Personal Touch
We are committed to the success of every student. Each student receives an academic evaluation and individual counselling regarding admissions to, and studies in Canadian schools. We take our young learners and their guardians to visit the schools and assist in the admissions process.
